This is a 1969 Ford Cortina. A very close relation to the Escort, but a little larger. It initially had a 1600 XFlow in it, but was changed to a 2.0 Litre from a later Cortina. This was my first 4 cylinder Ford, after having numerous V8 Fords. I bought it because it looked like the XR-XY Falcons of the late 60's that I love, and I reasoned that the 4 cylinder would be cheaper on fuel. Which it was.
This car was sent in for some rust repair work to the floors of the car. The rust was a small amount, confined to the front passanger floor, and a few small bubbles that had started to appear in front of the rear wheel arches.
It soon became clear that the panel shop I sent it to were not doing the work on my car. It took 9 months of arguing with the panel shop to get them to give me back my car. And when they had, they had bogged over the rust, taken my money and threatened to take me to court if I pursued the matter. Being younger and more stupid than I am today, I avoided the fight and took my rusted Cortina home. This car taught me a lot about the trust people place in workshops. My biggest problem was that I didn't everything in writing, which left me without a leg to stand on.
When the car entered the shop it was running, registered, with only a small patch of rust in the footwell and a small patch infron to fht erear wheels. When it left the panel shop the motor had siezed, the brakes had locked on and the rust had taken such a large hole out of the car that I had to scrap it. |
